Christmas has to be my favourite time of year. There are so many traditions handed down from generation to generation, added to, modified but always involving friends and family, fun, lots of cooking and baking and inevitably lots of eating.
For us in the Southern Hemisphere it is a stark contrast to the images which were brought across with our ancestors. Snowy days, fires, collecting a Christmas tree, roasted meats, hot vegetables and puddings, Santa coming down a chimney, everyone huddled inside and singing carols of winter wonderlands.
Meanwhile down here in the southern latitudes we swelter, sunny days, blue skies, air conditioning, salad based Christmas meals eaten outdoors, swimming, no Santa down chimneys, but we still sing those carols about Winter Wonderlands………………….
Happy countdown to Christmas week.
