Oh, how I love Spring, with it’s bounty of colour, air heavy with the sweet perfume of jasmine and fruit blossoms, gentle yellow diffused light, trees haloed with pale green, bird song and best of all, the days getting longer.
Once a year, for about 2 months in early Spring, the normally arid, dun coloured landscape of the West Coast of South Africa is transformed into a vivid rainbow palette. As far as the eye can see there are flowers. They form carpets and patchworks and pockets of the most beautiful colours and the whole image changes during the day as they tend to follow the passage of the sun.
I have been twice during flower time, but both times were very brief forays into the area. I am determined to spend a week or two exploring the area with camera, sketchbook and paints in the not too distant future!
